The return of Harris Mud-Volleyball teams to Zoar's Pond for the 30th annual Epilepsy Charity Tournament in Middletown, CT
2016 marked the 3rd year of Harris associates participating in the Mud-Volleyball Tournament benefiting the CT Epilepsy foundation. Of course we could not pass up the opportunity to get dirty for a great cause, and sure enough - we had a ball. Interest from our employees, family and friends was spiking high, so we ended up starting with two teams: Harris Mud Lions & Muddy Manes. The teams consisted of folks with all kind of backgrounds and roles within and outside of our organization. From summer interns to CEO, senior VPs and analysts, marketing, purchasing and finance, warehouse staff, sales... almost every department was represented, alongside their neighbors, sons, daughters and friends.
The Mud Lions almost won one or two of the 3 qualifying games. The Muddy Manes made the playoffs with a 2/3 record. By lunchtime we regrouped and were ready to attack with a Harris Allstars team, consisting of players from both teams. We won the first playoff game with relative ease and only lost the second one by two points. The Muddy Manes finished in the top 40 of about 200 teams that started earlier that day. By that time, most of us had been on the field for over 8 hours. Mix of sunshine and a few rain drops made for near perfect conditions. Snacks, beverages and Harris swag kept everyone on their feet. At one point we counted about 40 players and supporters in our little camp area, including many kids from our team members.
In previous years, $65,000+ was raised as part of the tournament. While we did not participate in fundraising beyond our team fees this year, we did donate security fencing and applied generous discounts for purchase of traffic cones to help the organizers of the event. This is what Harris Pride is all about! Fun, team building, being active and actively involved in our community. We're counting down the days to next year's event.
We'll be back!
